ENTRY PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS
PROFESSIONAL ELIGIBILITY

• Members of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art.  Including both individual members and member firms in good standing. Visit http://classicist-se.org/membership/join/ for more information.
• ICAA members with offices within the states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, the project may be located anywhere worldwide. When the submitting firm has multiple offices located in other states, the firm’s primary/headquarters office must be in one of the Southeast Chapter states.
• ICAA members with offices outside the Southeast Chapter Region, the projects must be located within the states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
• Projects submitted for entry must have been completed within the last ten (10) years and be substantially complete by the time of submission.
• Shutze Awards sponsors are not allowed to enter work in the competition. 
• The individual or firm submitting must have the approval of all those with legal ownership of the project and/or its design: including the client, architect/designer of record, and/or developer.
• The individual or firm submitting must have permission to use all photography and/or printed material contained within the submission. The ICAA Southeast Chapter reserves the right to use all materials submitted in future print and digital media for promotional purposes. All winning projects will be published in a future issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine as part of an article covering the 17th Annual Shutze Awards.

CATEGORIES
Architecture - Projects in this category encompass all architectural work that is residential or commercial, civic, institutional, and ecclesiastic in use.  The square footage calculation is to include all spaces under the roof of the main structure, including garage space and porches.

• Residential - Over 8000 sf
• Residential – 4000 - 8000 sf
• Residential - Under 4000 sf
• Residential Renovation - Over 5000 sf
• Residential Renovation - 2500 - 5000 sf
• Residential Renovation - Under 2500 sf
• Small Project - Under 1,500 sf - projects in this category may include renovation, new construction, ancillary structure, and interior or exterior architecture. (minimum 8 photographs required)
• Commercial/Civic/Institutional/Ecclesiastical/Multifamily/Planning - Over 10,000 sf
• Commercial/Civic/Institutional/Ecclesiastical/Multifamily/Planning - Under 10,000 sf

Interior Design - Projects in this category focus on the interior design and decoration of spaces.  Interior architecture will only be considered if it is executed in conjunction with the decoration and notated as part of the single submitting designer’s scope.

• Interior Design Residential - Over 8000 sf
• Interior Design Residential - 4,000 - 8,000 sf
• Interior Design Residential - Under 8000 sf
• Interior Design - Commercial/Civic/Institutional/Ecclesiastical
• Single Room - Interior Design - The project shall consist of a single interior room. (minimum 8 photographs required)

Landscape Architecture - Projects in this category encompass all work associated with the landscape and natural environment; residential, commercial, civic, institutional, planning, and ecclesiastic.

• Residential/Estate – one acre or more
• Residential/Garden - less than one acre
• Civic/Commercial/Parks/Planning

Artisan/Craftsmanship - Projects in this category are intended for individuals and companies in the allied arts (i.e. construction, woodwork, plaster, masonry, sculpture, decorative painting, fine arts, ironwork, etc.). Entrants should be directly involved in the specific design or execution of the work.

Excellence in the Classical Tradition - Projects in this category encompass those that do not discretely fall into the other project-based categories but prove excellence in expressing or promoting the Classical tradition through other means such as restoration, pedagogy, advocacy, stewardship, content production, etc.

Student/Emerging Professional – Projects may represent any of the above categories.


SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Entries and application fees will be accepted and processed online via Submittable.
Project Statement: A brief summary to convey the project's significance to the jury.  The summary should highlight features of the project, concept, site, landscape, and any specific details. 300-word maximum.
Project Images and Captions: Photographs of significant views along with plans, elevations, sections, details, etc. explaining the project to the jury.  A brief caption is required for each image/photograph.

• A minimum of 10 photographs/images are required and a maximum of 20 photographs/images are allowed unless noted otherwise.  (See Interior Design - One Room and Architecture - Small Project for exceptions)
• Files may be pdf, jpg, or tif.
• Image files are to be a minimum resolution of 300dpi.
• All drawings are to be saved as one layer, flattened images.
• Each file is to be numbered sequentially and include the project name [01-20]_[ProjectSubmissionName]_[photo, plan, elevation, etc.]
• Plans shall include a north arrow and graphic scale.  Elevations and details shall include a graphic scale.
• Drawings are included in the 20-image maximum count.
• Required drawings include floor plans, and site plan, if relevant.
• Relevant drawings may include elevations, sections, details, and concept sketches
• Interior Design submissions are required to include furniture plans for all furnished spaces of the project.
• Multi-level Floor Plans and Furniture Plans may be submitted as a multipage PDF and considered one (1) upload. All additional uploads are to be a single-page upload, if multiple pages are included in uploads other than the plans these images will not be considered by the jury and could be cause for disqualification.
• Landscape submissions are to include the following drawings: site plan and planting plans.
• Please ensure that the name of the submitting firm and any project consultants have been removed from all drawings and file names included in the submission.
• Do not include the firm name in the file name of any uploads.
• Do not include the submitting firm name or the firm name of any consultants in the Project Description.

Failure to meet any of the specified entry requirements could result in disqualification; if disqualified, the entry fee is non-refundable.

2024 DEADLINES & FEES

• Regular Submission Deadline:  June 17, 2024, by 5:00 PM ET - $150 per project submitted
• Late Submission Deadline:  June 24, 2024, by 5:00 PM ET - $200 per project submitted 

The Professional entry fee is $150 per project submitted and must be paid as part of the entry through Submittable.  Upon completion of the submission, final review of the submission, and acceptance of the Terms of Use, the entry fee is to be paid on the Submittable payment page. The submission is not complete until the entry fee is paid.  The entry fee will increase to $200 per project after 5:01 PM ET on June 17, 2024. The late entry period will close on June 24, 2024, at 5:00 PM ET.

JURY PROCESS
The three-person Jury will consist of at least one architect, a landscape architect or designer, and an interior designer. The Jurors will not live or have offices in the geographic area of the Southeast Chapter but will be familiar with ICAA and our mission. Submissions are identified by number only and there shall be no identifying information that would indicate the firm, architect, or designer. The Jury has full authority to choose a winner for each category. If submissions do not meet the expected level of excellence as deemed so by the Jurors, certain categories may go unfilled.

NOTIFICATION TO WINNERS
Winners of the Phillip Trammell Shutze Awards will be notified by phone and recognized at an evening ceremony held annually. The 17th Annual Philip Trammell Shutze Awards Dinner and Celebration will be held on October 5, 2024, at the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, Georgia.  Winners are expected to attend or send a representative in their place. The winning entries will be displayed on the Southeast ICAA website as well as in print and digital media.

ENTRY PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS
STUDENT & EMERGING PROFESSIONAL ELIGIBILITY

• Open to young professionals/recent graduates and current students in the fields of art, design, craftsmanship, or preservation. There is no age limit.
• The project must be completed in an academic studio. The project is not required to have been built.
• Applicants must be current members of ICAA at the time of submission.
• The applicant must meet one (1) of the following criteria:

1. A student in a university within the Southeast Region, defined as the states of  Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
2. A recent graduate, defined as graduation within the last 5 (five) years, on or after January 2018, and works with a professional firm in the Southeast Region, as defined above.
3. A student whose home address is within the Southeast Region, as defined above.
4. The project is in the Southeast Region, defined as the states of Alabama, Georgia,  Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Artisan/Craftsmanship - Projects in this category are intended for individuals or students either working or studying in the allied arts (i.e. construction, woodwork, plaster, masonry, sculpture, decorative painting, fine arts, ironwork, etc.). Entrants should be directly involved in the specific design or execution of the work.

2023 DEADLINES & FEES

• Submission Deadline:  June 24, 2024 by 5:00 PM ET - $25 per project submitted

The Student/Emerging Professional entry fee is $25 per project submitted and must be paid as part of the entry through Submittable.  Upon completion of the submission, final review of the submission, and acceptance of the Terms of Use, the entry fee is to be paid on the Submittable payment page.
